5 Winter Skincare Tips

Guest post featuring Ruxandra from Saccharine Soul

Extreme weather conditions – very hot or very cold – can damage your skin. Harsh winter weather, with its dry wind and cold temperatures, can make your skin dry up fast! Upgrading your regular skincare routine to a proper winter skincare regimen is key in keeping your skin hydrated and plump.

I am Ruxandra, a skincare addict, and I can help you achieve dreamy skin during cold weather by following these 5 skincare tips.

1. Cleanse!
The first and most important steps in your skincare routine should be proper cleansing. This should happen no matter the season. However, during winter, switch your cleanser with a milder one.

2. Exfoliate!
With your skin properly cleansed of any makeup or dust gathered throughout the day, get ready to go deeper! The cleanser might have removed the first layer on your face, but exfoliating will remove the dead cells and prepared your skin for the creams to be applied. In winter, in order to avoid further drying up of the skin, reduce the number of times you scrub (compared to summer time).

3. Moisturize!
After your skin is properly cleansed and scrubbed, you are ready to pile up the moisturizer! You can start with a light serum, followed by eye cream and then face cream. Every other day, you can add a sheet mask in the routine, and from time to time, you can also add ampoules to your routine to supercharge the hydrations!

4. Hydrate!
Your skin hydration shouldn’t come only from the outside, but also from the inside! When the weather is hot, you cannot forget to drink your water, but in winter, it might be more difficult. Keep a 1 liter bottle always with you, or change it up with delicious (unsweetened) teas!

5. Protect!
We are all applying SPF when it comes to going to the beach, but how about the rest of the summer, or the rest of the year? The rays of sun don’t magically stop being dangerous for the skin. Even if it’s winter, cloudy and cold, the sun still manages to pass through and let the UVA and UVB rays harm your skin. Add SPF protection as the last step in your skincare routine. If you think of sunscreen as being dense and unpleasant to apply on your face, make sure to check out some lightweight SPF creams specifically made for daily use.
